Do you need a wheelchair that allows independence?
Aged Care Store have a range of different self-propelled wheelchairs to suit everyone’s needs. Whether you’re looking for a lightweight wheelchair, or a transit wheelchair, we have the right one to get you out and about again.
Why should I have a self-propelled wheelchair?
When you’re told you need a wheelchair, it can be a daunting thought. It can feel like you’re losing your independence. But you’re not! With a self-propelled wheelchair, you’re in control – you don’t have to rely on anyone to push you around. However, it does mean that you have to push yourself around, which can be tiring on your arms. But it can make your arms stronger when you start to get used to it.
It may seem hard at first, but as you get used to your wheelchair, you can do all kinds of new things with it. With practice, you can use the advantageous large rear wheels to balance the chair to get up kerbs, small steps, and grassy areas you might not have been able to before without help. However, even with a self-propelled wheelchair, you can still have someone assist you if you want to give your arms a rest.
Wheels on a Self-Propelled Wheelchair
The wheels on a self-propelled wheelchair are not only bigger to help you push yourself, but they’re also designed to make mobility across all terrains easier. You feel less bumps and vibrations across rough surfaces, making for a smoother and more comfortable ride. If you still don’t find it comfy, we sell wheelchair cushions made from MemoMax, designed to prevent and relieve back pain and other discomforts associated with sitting for long periods of time.
We offer a range of standard fittings to our wheelchairs – detachable armrests, adjustable footplates, heel straps, quick release wheels, and adjustable back rests. You can also buy extra accessories for your wheelchair, such as adjustable armrests and even elevating leg rests for maximum comfort.
With a light-weight frame, they aren’t bulky so they’re easier to move around. They’re perfect for going out because they fit well through limited spaces and the adjustable arm rests can slide under the table with ease.
As well as wheelchairs, we also offer transfer aids to help you to get in and out of your chair. Our turntable swivel seat straps into the car to help you get into and out of the vehicle. It has a plastic base with a foam-covered cushion to make sure it is comfortable and easy to use. We also have similar turntables which can be placed on the floor with non-slip bases.
