What is biofreeze?
Biofreeze is a professionally recommended pain relieving gel. It uses the cooling effect of menthol, which not only relieves aches and pains, but also gives off a great scent that other pain relief gels might not. It comes in a 110g dispensing tube which allows for easy application on both large and smaller muscles.
What are the benefits of choosing biofreeze over ice?
Biofreeze delivers cold relief. Studies show that cold relief (also known as cryotherapy) is one of the best ways to stop pain and reduce inflammation. Although this works in a similar way to an ice pack, it has been shown that Biofreeze can reduce neck pain almost twice as much as ice and reduce muscle soreness over 60% more effectively.
In one study which tested the effectiveness on the spine, while both ice and biofreeze reduced their pain significantly, 9 out of 10 subjects said that the biofreeze kept the pain at bay for longer than the ice and they preferred the application of the gel. Another study compared the two on blood flow, pain and muscle performance. In just 5 minutes, the biofreeze had already decreased blood flow, while it took an extra 15 minutes for the ice to have the same effect.
As biofreeze is a gel, it’s a lot easier and quicker to apply than ice and allows you to continue with your day. Ice has to be held on the injury for an extensive amount of time, which can lead to stiffness, skin irritation and numbness. Meanwhile, the gel is simply massaged in and you’re ready to go almost straight away.
What can biofreeze help with?
Cold therapy should be used for acute pain or inflamed injury to improve bruising, swelling, and muscle pain. Biofreeze products can help relieve pain in a number of muscles in your body, such as:
- Muscle aches and spasms
- Back and shoulder pain
- Arthritis and tendinitis pain
- Sore muscles
- Sports and exercise-related injuries
- Sprains, strains, and bruises
- Hip, knee, and ankle pain
- Pulled and strained muscles
It penetrates quickly, relieving aches and pains for up to 4 hours. It can help with any muscle discomfort you may be experiencing, whether it is from sports and exercise or simply because you’re not as flexible as you used to be.
How to use it
Simply apply a small amount of the gel onto the affected area – or into your had if it’s in a hard to reach area – and massage it gently until it is completely rubbed in. It should no longer feel greasy or damp, and your pain and discomfort should be gone within minutes. Now you can carry on your day and no one will know your secret.
